Runnymede Eco Village survived for over 3 years as a place where people were welcomed to live off-grid away from mainstream society. They settled in a wood on Brunel University land, on the outskirts of London where they used their ingenuity to construct homes using a variety of materials discarded nearby. Gathering water from a well, using solar power and growing vegetables, they lived with minimum impact on the surrounding world. Their right to remain was challenged by the landowners and In March 2015 an eviction notice was served, and 6 months later police and bailiffs moved in, evicting residents and destroying their homes.
